GETTING THINGS DONE: Do morning routines really help?

One of the most common articles that you can find online when it comes to success and productivity is the morning routine of the world’s most successful people. Not that the success of Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk can be achieved solely by a solid morning routine, but it has been proven again and again that it does help.


The way you start your day plays a big role in how the rest of your day will go. More often than not, we snooze our way to the morning and consequently, rush to work. This allows no time for reflection, meditation, priority-setting much less exercise. But do these things really help?


Let’s list down the three (3) most common morning routine advice we get and how they can help us.


Exercising in the morning gives you more energy and a more positive outlook. This is science. When you get your body moving and perspiring, your body releases endorphins that make you feel good for the rest of the day.


Reflecting before diving into the day puts things into perspective. Instead of immediately checking your emails first thing in the morning, sitting and meditating or simply peacefully eating breakfast gives you time for yourself. It allows your brain to adjust and prepare for the day.


Prioritising your to-do for the day makes you more productive. Don’t just read the first email on your inbox, or multitask through twenty tabs first thing when you get to work. Take the time to sit down and organise your day. You’ll find that the ten minutes it takes to do this will really sort the rest of your day.


Injecting these to your morning routine will greatly help you achieve your daily goals! If you can’t immediately do all, don’t be too hard on yourself. It always helps to start small and the first step is the most obvious one but probably the most challenging: wake up early—perhaps, earlier than your usual. If you wake up ten minutes before work, there’s no way that you’ll be able to do any of the things listed above.
